Choledocholithiasis is defined as the presence of stones in the common bile duct. A quarter of patients undergoing cholecystectomy may have concomitant bile duct stones. The management of choledocholithiasis in a single stage with intraoperative endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography has been shown in recent years as an efficient and safe procedure, with high success rates in complete clearance of the bile duct, low morbidity rates and short hospital stay exposing as a useful and well accepted alternative by doctors and patients because it requires a single anesthetic event.
